Good idea to do my own mods?

would it be a good idea to install mods myself or pay someone to do it, im not the most handiest guy in the world but i can make my way around with instructions, i figure i can just use youtube videos to guide me and that way ill save alota money seeing as im in canada and it costs alot to do anything
