Cute pigtails in curly hair?

Okay so my hair is very thick and very curly, and I keep it in pigtails a lot if I don't know what else to do with it. But those usually look like crap. My hair is blonde, layered, and a few inches past my shoulders. How do I make it look cute without being frizzy and poofy and, well, actually cute?
